Before
moving to Pennsylvania my wife and I lived for almost ten years in the
NYC area. For much of that time I rarely drove a car. Soon after
settling in to our new home outside Philadelphia I began to really
notice how much of my time I spent
alone in my car, devoid of close contact with others, during any given day. At the same time I also began
to pay attention to how much of our landscape has been totally yielded
to the car. While this is not in any way a new subject for photography
making these photographs was still the best way for me to record what I
was most conscious of for significant parts of my day.
